Happy New Year!

As a makeup artist and owner of CARA Cosmetics, I, Leslie Christin, have been fortunate to cross paths with many inspiring individuals, and Jaime Baird, my longtime client, fitness expert, and the founder of SolRev, is one of them. Jaime and I share a passion for empowering others through beauty, creativity, and wellness. Over the years, we’ve collaborated on projects like the launch of the Shine Bright Palette, and I’ve continually admired her unwavering commitment to inspiring others through fitness and her ability to bring visionary ideas to life. Her latest venture, SolRev, launched in partnership with her new business partner Becky, is a testament to her dedication and innovative spirit. I’m thrilled to introduce all my CARA fans to their exciting new business and concept, which is sure to make waves in the fitness and wellness community!

Your Fitness Needs A Makeover

New Year, MORE YOU is the key to success.

By Jaime Baird, Solrev Founder & Women’s Fitness Expert

The years come and go—yet our fitness goals somehow remain the same. Each January, society tells us to become someone “new.” No wonder it's not working. We can only be ourselves. The secret is shifting from “new you” to  MORE YOU. So, shake off what you don’t need and discover lights you up in fitness. This is the life-changing juice that’ll fuel you endlessly.

After years of supporting busy women through all stages of life, I have discovered some key insights to help you unlock your fire for fitness and that vibrance that shimmers inside and out. Here are eight tips to makeover your fitness - take what YOU need, leave the rest:

  1. Do what revs your sol.  This is the most important tenet of becoming MORE YOU: put most of your fitness energy into the things that fire you up. Go to classes and do workouts that you enjoy and love. When you love it, you will stay consistent—the KEY to long-term success.

  1. Be a rebel.  Don’t sweat popular opinion. Just because everyone posts pictures on a Pilates reformer doesn’t mean it’s what’s best for you. Just because a podcaster said, “stick to zone 2 cardio,” it may not be exactly what you need.  Running isn’t the only way to burn 500 calories in an hour or improve conditioning. In fact, Solrev’s Dance Cardio provides as much or even more of a calorie burn and average heart rate as my hour-long runs. So, unless you are training for a sport or competition, it doesn’t matter which you do. So, DO YOU.

  1. Find YOUR strength. As we age, loss of muscle and strength eventually comes for everyone. It doesn’t feel real until you see it (hello, bat wings). But trust me, it’s happening slowly over time. But, don’t fret – you can fight back with exhilarating and fun strength training, and that does not have to involve huge barbells and looking like the Hulk. (Unless you want to!) Strength can be built and maintained with as little as body weight and resistance bands—in addition to traditional tools like dumbbells, kettlebells, and barbells. At Solrev, almost all of our classes include strengthfocusing on creating tight curves and a resilient, healthy body.

  1. Plan for the tired, hangry you. We all set intentions with a motivated mindset and an iron will. But then, you don’t sleep well, your kiddo smashes slime into the carpet, and you're stuck on I-4 for two hours on an empty stomach. Suddenly, the only way forward is through the drive-through to pick up French fries and ice cream, which end up making you feel even worse. Now, there is a place for those “throw-away” days. It’s normal and, occasionally, is precisely what you need! But, when it becomes a habitual and ineffective pattern for stress management, you know you need another way. So, make a backup plan. Bring an extra meal or snack on the road with you. Think about ten beautiful things that soothe you in challenging times. Have that list close by and top of mind for those tough days, and begin to have a pattern of beautiful, high vibration days.

  1. Protect your sleep. The most unsexy (but crucial), grown-a** woman thing you can do for your health and fitness is get sufficient rest. It’s critical for your energy, recovery, results, metabolism, mood, and a general feeling of wellness. Without it, you will break down, age faster, and not fully enjoy this beautiful life of yours. While each person is different, 7-9 hours per night is usually the sweet spot.

  1. Enjoy sol snacks. Get a vitamin D infusion a few times daily by getting outdoors to soak in the sun (with sunscreen on your face). Early morning sunlight in your eyes (not behind sunglasses) helps set your circadian rhythm so you are more awake during the day and have more restful sleep. However, sun exposure at any time improves mood, metabolism, and more. Target 15-30 minutes a day, if not more. Solrev has a beautiful outdoor training space to ensure our clients get exposure daily.

  1. Make space for recovery. While we Type-A gals like to sprint through the day in the spirit of productivity, finding pause and recovery will improve fitness results, focus, and wellness. This is why we end every Solrev class with meditation and breath work to initiate recovery and reset your nervous system. As Wayne Dyer said, “You can't have music without the silence in between the notes.” It really does take those quiet, silent moments to write your song.

  1. Use pom poms, not a whip. At some point or another, the negative voice comes for us all. The one that says: You are behind, not good enough, stuck, hopeless, too busy, weird, awkward, too much, too little, too selfish, etc. In those moments, we have a choice: Pick up the whip and use that voice as a belittling motivator. Or, grab the pom-poms and cheer yourself on like you would a best friend. Countless research has shown that long-term success and happiness come from the latter. I encourage you to fill your mind, heart, time, and belly daily with things that raise your vibration. That’s one of the things I love most about Solrev. It is a place for collective effervescence. It's a beautiful exchange of energy and a place to find support from like-minded women.
